Celebrating the life of

Rosetta Pauline Davis Sellers

Passed away on August 25, 2023

Rosetta Pauline Davis Sellers

Rosetta Pauline Davis Sellers, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home in Causton Bluff last Friday. Born in Savannah on April 23, 1925, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Eastern Star, the Moon River Chorus, the Savannah Widows Society, and the Savannah Theatre Company.

She attended Armstrong Junior College before graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Mathematics and Spanish Language. After graduation, she returned to Savannah and worked for the CDC with the Public Health Services at Oatland Island where she met and married her husband James Harrison Sellers. In 1959, after the birth of their three children, they transferred to Southeast Asia with the Public Health Department. Together the family lived in Djakarta, Indonesia, and Bangkok, Thailand before returning to the United States in 1972. She took advantage of life and every opportunity it offered. Her calling ranged from statistician, singer, teacher, and retail sales manager to world traveler and even cattle farmer for a while. She knew how to grab life as it passed and hold on tight. She was truly a light to all those around her and the world is a darker place now that she is gone.

Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents Ivey and Marie Davis, husband James H. Sellers, and sons Brent Edwards and James Harris Sellers Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marie and Tim Burke of Savannah, her grandson and his wife Tyson and Amanda Sellers, and great-grandchildren Easton, Wyatt, and Tyson Sellers II of Savannah. A visitation will be held at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home on Whitemarsh Island on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in a private ceremony with her family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice Savannah.

GUEST BOOK

What a great Savannah lady! I still have visions of her hopping in her car in her 80s for a luncheon, card game, Moon River Chorus, or family visit. Always on the go, and a wealth of information about Savannah in the "old" days. Rosetta loved people, a stiff Bourbon, and a good time. I'm raising my glass to Rosetta and a life well lived. I knew Rosetta through the Savannah Widows Society. What a lively, witty person! We had after meeting lunches along with good friend Becky Traxler, also now departed. My condolences to her family.
